About the FairMate app

Built for the money that keeps going.

Most bill splitters are built for the dinner. FairMate is built for everything that comes after it — the share house, the weekly club, the deposit nobody can account for.

Why we built it

FairMate started with two problems we kept running into ourselves.

The first was a share-house security deposit. Four people had paid into it across two years, some had moved out, one had been replaced mid-lease — and when it came time to get it back, nobody could say with confidence who was owed what. The paper trail was a group chat and a spreadsheet that stopped being true months earlier.

The second was a weekly club. Same night every week, court booked, a rotating cast of people turning up — and one organiser quietly out of pocket, sending the same message every Thursday asking people to settle up. The admin was small each week and exhausting across a year.

Both problems have the same shape: the cost is recurring, the group changes, and the existing apps assume neither. They split one bill among a fixed set of people beautifully, then leave you to do the hard part by hand. So we built the app that handles the hard part — sessions that open themselves and bill per head, deposits tracked properly across move-ins and move-outs, and rent split by the days you were actually there.

The important part

Your money never passes through us.

FairMate is not a payment processor and never has been. We work out who owes what; you and your group pay each other directly, however you already do it — bank transfer, UPI, PayID, cash. We hold no balances, take no cut of what you settle, and there is no FairMate wallet to top up.

For a money app, we think what it doesn't touch matters as much as what it does.

What we hold to

Three commitments that decide what we will and won't build.

Free for the group

Everyone you split with uses FairMate free, forever. A splitting app that charges the whole group is a splitting app nobody's group will join.

Your data isn't the product

We make money from Premium subscriptions and nothing else. We don't sell your data and we don't take a percentage of what you settle.

The maths is shown, not asserted

Every split shows how it was worked out. Money between friends only stays easy while everyone can see the numbers are fair.

Common questions

No. FairMate works out who owes what and everyone pays each other directly, the way they already do. We are not a payment processor, we hold no balances, and no money ever passes through us.
A small independent team. FairMate is not backed by a bank or a payments company, which is why it can stay free for everyone you split with and charge only the organiser for the extras.
From Premium subscriptions only, at $1.99 a month or $19.99 a year. We do not sell your data, we do not take a cut of what you settle, and everyone you split with uses FairMate free.
Yes. Splitting, settling up and joining a group are free, and always free for the people you split with. Only the organiser ever needs Premium, and only for the extras.
